"Knights of the Angel, Part V" Bast pledges allegiance to Rieken. The group (Liana, Brent, Rieken, Bast, Chris, Reynaldo, Galahad, Corrine, Dunstan, Bast, D'Mer, Minetti and Serezha) meet up at Minetti's and Rieken decides it is time to take them back to the Siovansin. As they leave Minetti's house, they are attacked by the Guard. They fight off the advance party but the Guard ship attacks. Rieken unleashes his power to destroy the ship. The group hurriedly departs. Meanwhile on the Siovansin, that surge of power is noticed and Niniri is notified.

A few miles down the road the painters see the truck at the side of the road, the driver is flagging them down. The motorcycle they had seen earlier is lying on the road, but no sign of the riders. They look around, then see them lying on the road, twisted like rag dolls, dead.
